The Pelahatchie Police Department asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s) involved in a theft from Jellystone Park located in Pelahatchie.
The Yogi Bear statue, said to be worth $10,000, was stolen near the park’s entrance. Officers obtained video footage of a pickup truck entering the park at approximately 11:42 p.m on April 15.
The truck made a u-turn at the entrance and stopped near the statue. The suspect(s) detached the statue from its concrete base and removed it within approximately three minutes.
After much media attention and effort, Yogi Bear was found, but it was heavily damaged. The Pelahatchie Police are still investigating the theft. There is no new information at this time.
Yogi Bear is one of many beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoons. He made his debut in 1958 as a support character for The Huckleberry Hound Show.
