Mud Only ATV Park: Laying the groundwork

Mud Only ATV Park: Laying the groundwork

The Town of Pelahatchie is anticipating the opening of its very own ATV Park. The Mud Only ATV Park is owned by Sam Yarbrough, James Birdwell and Jason Birdwell.

As mentioned in the September 2021 issue of Pelahatchie News, the Board of Alderman at City Hall approved the construction of the ATV park at the August 2021 board meeting. This recreational facility will be the first ATV park to open in Rankin County.

Once the purchase of the property was finalized in February 2022, the groundwork of the park could begin. Logging equipment and other machinery has been brought in to open it up for trails, parking and camper slots. A date for the opening of the Mud Only ATV Park can only be speculated at this point, due to the amount of rain Mississippi has received.

The rain hasn’t slowed the owners down in the planning process. They have been busy with the layout of several trails. Plans for trails include, “trying to keep it looking nice and clear of debris,” said Yarbrough. The Mud Only ATV Park is envisioned to be an environment where riders and campers can have a great time and do so safely.

As safety is important, the park plans to have an on-site helipad and qualified safety and emergency personnel. Also, it will be well lit and gated when not open.

Yarbrough and the Birdwells say they are appreciative of the interest regarding the park. They are working as quickly as possible to get it ready. Off road enthusiasts will be able to purchase arm bands at the gate for the day or the weekend. The Mud Only ATV Park will be located at I-20 and Highway 43 - behind the Chevron and Texaco gas stations.
