The Rankin County Board of Supervisors has secured $5.6 million in federal funding for a vital transportation initiative that, once constructed, will provide much-needed congestion relief and safety enhancements along Hwy. 18 Bypass at its intersection with the Meridian Speedway Rail Corridor.
This initiative is known as the Rankin County I-20 Connectors Loop which contemplates the continuation of transportation enhancements along MS Hwy. 18 from the I-20 interchange at Exit 54 (Crossgates Boulevard/Greenfield Road) and eventually connecting to I-20 at Exit 59 in East Brandon.
This initial funding is one of several installments that will first facilitate construction of a bridge that eliminates the current at-grade rail crossing near Greenfield Rd. Additional improvements are planned as funding becomes available.
The funding for this initiative was included in legislation recently passed by Congress through the unyielding efforts of Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith both of whom diligently supported Rankin County’s requests.
Rankin County extends sincere appreciation to Senators Wicker and Hyde-Smith, as well as their respective staffs, for their unwavering support of Rankin County’s citizens.
