By Tina Mauney, Branch Manager, Pelahatchie Public Library
The Pelahatchie Public Library is pleased to announce that in-person programming will be back for our summer library programs.
Each summer, libraries across the country offer programming during the summer to encourage students to read during their summer break. Summer is the perfect time to allow your children to select books that interest them to read for their enjoyment. This activity assists children in retaining skills while out of the classroom over the summer months.
This summer, the library will be offering a new lineup of programming. Each week, a new craft activity, STEAM activity, and other activities will be available every day, all day, during the normal operating hours of the library. This change will allow greater flexibility and provide opportunities for more children to participate in the programming.
In addition, Pelahatchie Public Library will be awarding brag tags to student readers. These brag tags may be earned by checking out books, applying for a library card, or attending a program. There will be ten tags available. Once a student has earned six tags, he or she will receive a small prize and be eligible for a gift card drawing.
One large program, Dorian LaChance, magician, is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, at 3 p.m.
The library staff are excited about the upcoming summer programming and look forward to seeing your students this summer.
Pelahatchie Public Library is a branch of the Central Mississippi Regional Library System serving Rankin, Scott, Simpson and Smith Counties.
