Walters wins first place in national art contest

Maddie Grace Walters, a junior at Pelahatchie High School, won first place in the national hand-drawn art contest for the 9 - 12 grade division for the 2022 American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). Walters’ artwork reflects the theme of this year’s art contest in Spanish and Portuguese - “Valorando nuestras raíces y construyendo nuestro futuro,” “Valorizando nossas raízes e construindo nosso futuro,” which translates to “Valuing our roots and building our future.” The AATSP promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish and Portuguese languages and their corresponding Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and other related literatures and cultures at all levels of education.
