There are quite a few pieces of essential gear you need to go night hunting. We’ve decided to leave off the most obvious piece of equipment—your weapon. However, just because it’s not on the list doesn’t mean you should forget to bring it! Read on to learn the other essential gadgets you should take with you.
Lights or Night Vision Gear
Believe it or not, seeing is somewhat important if you hope to aim properly. Who knew, right? That’s why you need to bring gear to help you see. You can go with either lights or night vision gear, depending on the type of hunting you’re going for.
If you want to fire up an off-road vehicle and take on some wild hogs, you might want to go with big lights. If you want to get the drop on a predator, night vision gear may be more your speed.
Hunting Knife
Hunting isn’t nearly as fun if you don’t come away with delicious meat. A hunting knife will allow you to carve up your trophies in the field and quickly get them into sealed packages so that the meat doesn’t spoil. Make sure your knife has a good edge before you leave so that you can save time when cutting into your catch.
Handgun
The handgun isn’t for hunting; it’s for protection. If you’re in the wild tracking down a predator, you should be ready for that predator to fight back. Coyotes and other predators are clever animals, and you don’t want to be in a close-range situation without a handgun for backup.
Calls
Calls are a great way to bring your prey to you. They can be hard to learn, though. Fortunately, there are plenty of great tips on how to use calls well once you have them. Bobcat calls are particularly tough, but you can eventually use them with helpful advice.
