The Mississippi College Choctaws have been picked to finish in sixth in the 2022 Gulf South Conference (GSC) football standings, courtesy of an announcement by
the league office on August 3. The Choctaws earned 17 points in the rankings, finishing ahead of North Greenville and Shorter. Two players – Nick Walker and
Cody Myers – earned spots on the Preseason All-GSC team.

Myers is an important cog in the Choctaws' special teams unit. The Pelahatchie native handles the team's long snapping duties.

Walker, a defensive back, had 29 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble last season. More notably, the St. Louis, Missouri, native finished tied for
second in the GSC with three interceptions, including one in each of the Choctaws'; final two games against in-state rival Delta State and West Alabama.

The Choctaws will also be looking for contributions from new players this season.

Quarterback Devlen Woods, wide receiver Brandon Miller, defensive lineman Jaeden Ridgeway, and defensive back Colin Williams were named to the GSC's
newcomers watch list.

Quarterback DeAnte Smith-Moore will be leading the team's triple-option offense for the second straight season. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native rushed for 634 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Running Back Marcus Williams – the 2021 GSC Offensive Freshman of the Year – rushed for 500 yards and nine touchdowns last season. The Donaldsonville,
Louisiana, native also added two receiving touchdowns and finished seventh in the GSC with 6.7 yards per rush.

The Choctaws finished 4-6 last season with wins over three GSC opponents: North Greenville, Shorter, and West Alabama. They will open the 2022 season
with a meeting with Albany State on Saturday, September 3rd . Kickoff from Albany, Georgia is set for 6:00 CDT.
