The Public Library in Pelahatchie was closed for three weeks in order to install new flooring. Librarian Tina Mauney opened the doors on Monday, August 8, after the library’s shelves were reinstalled and the 16,000 books were put back on the shelves. She said that she and four others from headquarters packed the books in 600 U-Haul boxes when the shelving was removed. Mauney wanted to thank the Rankin County Board of Supervisors and the Town of Pelahatchie Board members for funding the project. She said Mayor Karl Vanhorn gets a special thank you for personally pressure washing the exterior of the building. The library has been in the Muscadine Park location for approximately 14 years. A new library sign should be ready in 6 to 8 weeks.
