The Mississippi College Choctaws have been picked to finish in sixth in the 2022 Gulf South Conference (GSC) football standings, courtesy of an announcement by the league office on August 3. The Choctaws earned 17 points in the rankings, finishing ahead of North Greenville and Shorter. Two players – Nick Walker and Cody Myers – earned spots on the Preseason All-GSC team.
Myers, who played football for Pelahatchie High School, is an important cog in the Choctaws' Special Teams Unit. The Pelahatchie native handles the team's long snapping and utility duties.
Walker, a defensive back, had 29 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble last season. More notably, the St. Louis, Missouri, native finished tied for second in the GSC with
three interceptions.
The Choctaws will also be looking for contributions from new players this season.
The Choctaws finished 4-6 last season with wins over three GSC opponents: North Greenville, Shorter, and West Alabama. They opened the 2022 season with a meeting with Albany State on Saturday, September 3.
