Walters Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) will be holding its annual Fall Fish Fry Fundraiser on Saturday, October 22, 4 to 7 p.m. The fish fry will be located at their station at 125 Walters Rd., Pelahatchie.
The plates will consist of US Farm raised catfish, hush puppies, fries and cole slaw. Eat in or carry out. Each fish plate is $13.
WVFD was incorporated in the fall of 1991 as a non-profit organization. Station 1 is their primary station, and it is located in the Walters community. They have two additional stations, one located on Hwy. 43 South at Antioch, and one on Shiloh Rd. The WVFD is not a taxing district, so they rely on fundraisers such as the fish fry as a primary source of operating revenue.
They have ten active members who are 100% volunteer. Six members are certified through the Mississippi Fire Academy as either 1001 or Certified Volunteer Fire Fighters. WVFD has one critical care paramedic, two EMTs and one EMR. Typically, they receive 200 dispatches a year. Their response area is currently rated as a Class 7 by the State Rating Bureau, which result in savings on homeowners' insurance.
WVFD meets the first and third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. They need additional members and encourage anyone that would like to help serve their community to attend a meeting to learn more about the department. No experience is necessary. They will provide the training.
