Cross Roads Baptist celebrates Pastor Vaughn during retirement reception

Cross Roads Baptist celebrates Pastor Vaughn during retirement reception
John and Kathy Vaughn celebrate Rev. Vaughn’s retirement reception together at Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Cross Roads Baptist Church honored Rev. John W. Vaughn with a retirement reception on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. The church invited all to come and celebrate. Rev. Vaughn officially retired on Dec. 31, 2022. He has served in the ministry for 40 years, and he served as pastor at Cross Roads Baptist for almost 20 years.

In the last 72 years, Cross Roads Baptist Church has had 14 pastors, plus interim pastors. The church has done the math, and they have averaged hiring a new pastor every 3.3 years.

“Each man that God has led to our church was here because God wanted him here,” states Tommy Moore, a deacon at the church. “Each one had a particular gift that we as a church needed. I have been blessed to serve as deacon with the last five men, and I can tell you I have never served with a pastor that had the heart of pastoral ministry like Bro John. He led us to heights that I never dreamed we would reach. I consider him as my pastor, and my friend.

The Lord has got things planned that we know nothing about. But I can assure you that Bro John will be seeking His will as he ‘retires.’”

In his article which was published in the January 2023 issue of Pelahatchie News, Rev. Vaughn reflected, “The reality is though, that I have not retired from ministry! I can’t find in Scripture where the Lord affords us that luxury. I look forward to other opportunities that the Lord might provide for me in the days and years ahead.”
