Pelahatchie Elementary students win in writing competition

Pelahatchie Elementary student Landry Belle McMillan is the Fictional Short Story winner for the sixth grade category in the Rankin County School District Writing Celebration. “Landry is an excellent author who uses descriptive images and suspense to keep her readers interested. She wrote an adventurous story that takes readers to the fictitious Tupa-Chān jungle, where we meet all sorts of mysterious creatures and work with them to solve a suspenseful mystery,” said Kimberly Bryant, library media specialist at PES. Noelle Gardner, fifth grader at Pelahatchie Elementary School (PES), is the 4-5 winner for the Fictional Short Story category in the Rankin County School District Writing Competition. Gardner’s story is titled “Her Crystal Necklace.” The story is a mix of historical fiction and fantasy. Kimberly Bryant, library media specialist at PES, said, “Gardner is a wonderful author who uses suspense and expressive dialogue to hook her readers.”  Pictured (l to r) are: Sarah Scaggs, fourth grade English language and literature teacher; Noelle Gardner; and Principal Robin Sanders.
