Ross and Spain celebrate merger of railways

The Southern Rail Commission (SRC) Chairman Knox Ross and Co-chair John Spain  celebrated the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern merger in Kansas City, Missouri. The two rail companies are now formally named Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).

Former Mayor and longtime Pelahatchian Knox Ross shared their future plans in regard to the railway merger, “The merger means that CPKC now owns the Meridian Speedway line through Pelahatchie. We will be announcing a grant application led by Amtrak and SRC with the support of the Mississippi and Louisiana Departments of Transportation, and CPKC will begin the study of implementing Amtrak service on the line utilizing the existing Amtrak service from Meridian to Dallas and Ft. Worth, Texas.”

“We plan to have a Rankin County stop near the airport at Whitfield. This is one of our projects, which also includes service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast between Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana.”
