How To Improve the Accuracy of Your Auger

Performing a job accurately on a construction site is necessary because it can affect your crew’s time management. For example, when a tool is not working efficiently, you will have to push back the production schedule until you can fix the issue. Your auger is one of the tools you should keep an eye on because many things can affect its accuracy. Improve the accuracy of your auger with the following tips and tricks.
How To Improve the Accuracy of Your Auger

Practice Makes Perfect

In part, the operator of the auger tool is somewhat responsible for the accuracy of the equipment because they are guiding the tool to dig a hole. When an operator is inexperienced, the boreholes will likely not be up to standard. One of the best ways to improve your accuracy is through practice and training. The more training you have, the better you’ll understand how to work the tool, enabling you to drill an accurate hole.

Replace Worn Teeth

The teeth on your auger tooling are among the most essential components that help dig the borehole. When these teeth are worn down, it forces the auger flighting to take on unnecessary wear, damaging more components on your tool. Worn teeth will create a smaller borehole than you intend, and your auger might not track straight down into the earth. Replace these teeth as soon as they become worn to maximize the performance of the auger.

Clear the Worksite

The auger you choose to work with will depend on the soil conditions. For example, you cannot force a dirt auger to drill through rocky soils because it will damage the tool. Forcing an auger to work through unsuitable conditions will only ruin the equipment. Working through the overgrowth and vegetation around the worksite will clog the auger and affect the tool’s efficiency. Clear the worksite of debris before digging a borehole to ensure the auger is efficient and accurate in drilling.

Perform Regular Maintenance

By far, the best way to improve the accuracy of your auger is through regular maintenance. This ensures the tool has the proper fluid levels, lubricants, and components to enhance performance. This is also a great time to inspect the equipment for damage. You will want to rebuild or replace your auger if this damage is affecting the accuracy and performance of the tool.

Many variables can influence the performance of your auger. As long as you’re practicing your skills, replacing worn components, clearing the worksite, and performing regular maintenance, you can ensure your tool is working efficiently. What else have you done to improve the accuracy of your equipment?
