Whatley for District 1 Supervisor

Whatley for District 1 Supervisor

My name is William Todd Whatley and I am running as a Republican for the District 1 Supervisor for Rankin County.

My decision to run comes with the support of family, encouragement by many people in the county, and from my family’s history of public service. My father, Kary Whatley, was the first full time Fire Chief for the City of Richland and a Rankin County Constable for many years. My mother, Shirley Whatley, worked for the Mississippi Public Employees Retirement System for over 28 years.

I am a Richland High School graduate. I currently work for the City of Richland with 30 years’ service. During my time with the City, I began as a laborer in the Water Department, working my way to the Supervisor of the Street Department into my current position as Assistant Public Works Director over the Street, Water, Sewer, Planning and Development, Parks and Recreation, and the City Maintenance Departments, supervising over 50 employees and working with a budget over $10 Million.

During my time with the City of Richland, I have helped its citizens through many natural disasters and numerous floods, including Hurricane Katrina, making sure that the roads were clear and everything was working properly. I also worked with MDOT from the planning stage through the completion of the Highway 49 Project, ensuring a successful outcome. I am a member of the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, Mississippi Rural Water Association, American Public Works Association, Mississippi Mosquito and Vector Control Association, and Mississippi Municipal League and I hold certifications through the State of Mississippi as a Water Operator and a Pesticide Applicator.

My wife, Susan Baggett Whatley, and I are life-long residents of Rankin County. We have been married for 26 years and have two sons who are attending college.

I look forward to meeting many of you during this campaign as I plan to attend many events throughout the District to hear your thoughts on how we can make Rankin County even better in the future.
