The flamingo flocking fundraiser has been around for several years, cropping up across the country at schools, religious organizations, and other non-profits. It has been a fun project for many a youth group.
Locally, Hadleigh Elliot age 6 and her sister, Karis Elliot age 4, have a new twist for the lawn decorating. Everyone has done the flamingos, so they went a slightly different route. The sister’s “Skunk” you. Before you worry about how that sounds or having a skunk in your yard you should meet Jojo, an outdoor wooden sign created by a friend of the family. Jojo is a friendly and happy wooden skunk.
Typically, a 20-dollar donation will put Jojo in your yard with dozens of pinwheels for a fun, happy feeling. There she stays for 24 hours and then a member of the family will come and take her on to her next mission.
This fundraiser began with a need to help Hadleigh and Karis with some dancing expenses. Both are members of the Central Mississippi Dance of Rankin County. Hadleigh is embarking on her 2nd year with the Central MS. Dance, and Karis is just starting. Kristen Elliot, Hadleigh’s and Karis’s mom, was looking for a way to supplement their endeavors as dancers. Several moms had talked about different fundraisers but after hearing about a flamingo flocking Kristen wanted something unique that would stand out and still help the girls. The family all wanted to have fun and put smiles on people’s faces and still raise money for the girl’s dance.
One of the recipients of the skunk visit was Bryanna Hastings and her family. Hastings said her daughters were giddy when they found out they had been skunked. Hastings also commented that she thought it was an exceptional means to raise funding for the girl’s dance. The decorations disappear to go to the next person and no part of the lawn is harmed. Only the memory of a little stinker in their yard. The pricing for the “skunking” varies with donations.
A simple donation will put Jojo in your yard. Another donation will move her to a friend’s house and there is even a donation of insurance to keep from getting Skunked again. The family wants you to have the chance to put smiles on peoples faces, and still help the girls.
It’s still all in good fun and for the right donation, they and their accomplices will decorate your yard. To follow the exploits of Jojo or to contact the girls for a “skunking” contact the Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/skunkafriend042.
