Lynn Porter’s book “Discover the Pearl” is featured as a self-guided tour at the Reservoir Botanical Gardens. Lynn’s goal for the book “is to inspire and educate upper elementary children on taking care of our waterways -the Pearl River and beyond.”
A free self-guided tour for families and individuals to enjoy based on the children’s book “Discover the Pearl” will be held at the Reservoir Botanical Gardens from sunrise to sunset October 15th through November 21st. The tour will highlight pages from the book detailing the history, importance, water quality, wildlife and conservation of the Pearl River.
Pearline, the book’s pirate narrator, will be feature leading guests through the historic gardens. Pearline’s pirate friends will be on site Thursdays 9 – 11 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.; Fridays from 4-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9- 11 a.m., weather permitting.
Come enjoy the beautiful outdoors during the pandemic while learning about the Pearl River. The nature trail is a .06 mile paved loop featuring native trees, ferns and 50+ year old ornamental shrubs. Masks are requested at the gate. The Reservoir Botanical Gardens are located at 220 Spillway Road. The gardens entry is tucked in the back corner of the parking lot that houses the Reservoir Public Library, the Fire Station and the Community Center.
This event is a cooperative effort between Keep the Reservoir Beautiful, USDA/Pearl Watershed Experience, Reservoir Garden Club and the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.
