Pelahatchie High School Spanish Teacher Kimberly Watson was named the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) Mississippi Teacher of the Year. Ms. Watson was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT). Ms. Watson started her 4 year term of service at the close of the 2024 SCOLT Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Watson's session proposal, "Let Me Tell You: Tells of Reflection and Imagery," was also accepted for presentation at the annual conference.
She shared how she and her students have incorporated consistent weekly writing and discussion journal practices the past 4 years to develop classroom culture, SEL/personal goal development, build a community, integrate levels of Bloom's taxonomy, and support World Language instruction in working to build a World Language program.
SCOLT's mission is to foster impactful World Language education for all learners by connecting and empowering language educators. SCOLT is a regional member affiliate organization to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). It is composed of 13 member state language associations and the Virgin Islands.
