The Pelahatchie High School Band recently began preparing for the new year with a five-day band camp. Each day had a theme including Beach, Section Colors, Tacky Tourist, Camo, and Chiefs Day. Everyone put in a lot of hard work and had some fun too.
Day four (Camo) was eventful with Mr. Tyler Findley with AMRO Music assisting with fundamentals, followed by the Herrington family bringing the band popsicles. Later, the Williamson family brought by a fresh watermelon for everyone, and the Boyer family brought small water bottles and Cheez-Its. To end the day, Mayor Van Horn brought a city fire truck and surprised the band with a cooldown.
On Day five (Chiefs), the band held its second annual Drill Down competition, where students have to respond to a series of marching commands without messing up. This year’s rookie winner was Maren McCartney, and the overall winner was Branch Boyer.
