The Pelahatchie Chiefs extended their postseason success on Saturday with a hard-fought 53-48 victory over the Newton Tigers. The win marks the 12th straight for the red-hot Chiefs, who have proved to be a formidable force in the playoffs.
The game was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading leads throughout the contest. In the closing minutes, Pelahatchie’s defense stepped up, forcing key turnovers and sinking clutch free throws to secure the win.
“This team has really found its rhythm,” said Pelahatchie head coach Marcus Reynolds. “They’ve worked hard all season, and now we’re seeing that pay off. It wasn’t our best shooting night, but our defense and effort carried us through.”
With the win, Pelahatchie improved to an impressive 26-2 on the season.
Parents and fans packed the gym, creating an electric playoff atmosphere. “It’s amazing to see how far these boys have come,” said Stephanie Carter, a parent of one of the senior players. “They play with so much heart, and you can tell they believe in each other. This town is behind them 100%.”
For Newton, the loss was a tough blow, dropping their record to 16-9. The Tigers put up a strong fight, but Pelahatchie’s defensive intensity and poise under pressure proved to be the difference-maker.
