Pelahatchie Elementary held its annual family STEAM night on March 6th, 2025. This free event united students, families, and the community to explore various STEAM topics through engaging hands-on activities that promote science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The evening also included an opportunity for families to buy new and gently used books from Impression Books, a bookstore located in Flowood.
This year’s theme centered around the season of spring, with numerous activities designed to connect participants with nature and earth. One highlight was a butterfly room where students created devices to view a butterfly hologram, constructed a flying butterfly using elastic energy, and illustrated the butterfly life cycle. Another popular activity was the chlorophyll painting room where participants learned that the process of photosynthesis makes chlorophyll fluorescent, displaying a pink light under black lights. The BeeBot robot challenge also generated a buzzing excitement among attendees!

Additionally, this event featured an art display showcasing works by students in STEAM and Pre Kindergarten, alongside some projects completed throughout the year during engineering design challenges in STEAM. This space also showcased some of the work done by the Robotics Club.
The success of Spring into STEAM would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated staff, engaged community members, and the enthusiastic involvement of the PTO. Their commitment to fostering a love for learning and collaboration creates an enriching environment for our students. Together, we continue to inspire curiosity and creativity in our young learners, making events like this both memorable and impactful.
