Renfroe receives Journalism recognition at Mississippi State Press Association convention

Because the Mississippi State Press Association (MSPA) fall convention mainly centers around yearbook and literature magazine awards, the Pelahatchie High School (PHS)’s Hatchie News staff competed for categories in Best of Show, and senior editor Laura Renfroe took home several awards: Best Lede, Best Graphic Illustration, and Best Headline, which MSPA Director RJ Morgan read to the audience. She also placed as a finalist for Best Caption.
Awards were given at the November 1 awards ceremony at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). The winning pieces, published on hatchieheadlines.com, were designed written by Renfroe.
Renfroe plans to attend USM, seeking a degree in graphic design with a minor in journalism, in pursuit of a career in Entertainment Journalism, where she would work for a publication like Time Magazine or Entertainment Weekly.
