Packing Tips for Your Upcoming Move To Reduce Stress

Packing is perhaps the most stressful part of any move, but it doesn’t need to be. We have stress-reduction tips to make your move easy and breezy.
Packing Tips for Your Upcoming Move To Reduce Stress

Are you finding a new place to live? Sure, that’s exciting! But packing all your things into boxes, lugging them from your house to a truck to a new home, and feeling anxious the whole time isn’t easy. Luckily, we’re here to help you with our packing tips for your upcoming move to reduce stress.

Give Yourself Time

Procrastination is the death of the stress-free move. Frantically throwing your keepsakes and heirlooms into boxes is a surefire way to wind up with priceless broken objects and a stress headache the size of a mountain. Instead, start your packing plan weeks ahead of the moving truck’s arrival. Budget plenty of time for each room, and even set aside a day or two to acquire all the materials you need.

Declutter and Purge

Before you open a single cardboard box and start stuffing your tchotchkes inside, take a few days to declutter your house and donate (or throw away, depending on the condition) anything you don’t need to take with you.

We all accumulate clutter that we refuse to throw away for whatever reason, but now is your time to put your foot down and say, “No! I will not need the 14 cheap plastic bracelets I won at mini-golf!”

Keep Weight in Mind

The last thing anyone needs when packing or unpacking a moving truck (and potentially moving up several flights of stairs) is a bunch of heavy boxes. Do yourself a favor during the packing process, and always keep box weights in mind.

While it may make sense organizationally to put all your hardcover encyclopedias in one box, future-you will feel very annoyed with that decision. Avoiding procrastination may be our best tip to reduce stress, but considering box weight is the best packing advice for your back.

Now that you know these packing tips for your upcoming move to reduce stress, take a breath, take your time, and get where you’re going with a smile on your face.
